Compostable Packaging
Compostable packaging – everyone wants to use it, but not everyone knows how to use it correctly.
All compostable packaging is biodegradable, but not all biodegradable packaging is compostable. It is also important to distinguish and understand the differences between home compostable packaging and industrial compostable packaging. After all, the purpose is defeated if a package that is compatible with home composting ends up in an industrial facility.
Consumers should also be aware of their local industrial composting facility’s capabilities. PLA (plastic made from renewable resources) is a popular structure in the compostable world, but many facilities in Canada are not equipped to process that material appropriately.
